During the summer of 2008, representatives from two South Africa land rights movements met with the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York (my employer) and invited us to come to South Africa to witness what was happening there. In March of 2009, the Center for Constitutional Rights and their US-based partner Take Back the Land travelled to South Africa just a couple of months before the World Cup started. At the conclusion of the trip I was handed a pile of photos, videos, and audio recordings. I strung them together into a cohesive narrative.
